The NBA world can’t believe Memphis’ injury situation

The Memphis Grizzlies we’ve had some unfortunate luck with injuries the past few seasons, and that brutal streak appears to have carried over into the start of the 2025-26 NBA season. The grizzlies already are without starting quarterback Ja Morant due to an ankle injuryand on Saturday, the team announced that backup quarterback Scottie Pippen Jr. will undergo a procedure for his toe injury and will be sidelined indefinitely.

To make matters worse, the Grizzlies are also without two key players in their rotation, Zach Eddy and Brandon Clark. Edei had ankle surgery in the offseason and is out for the start of the year. Clarke has been sidelined for all of practice as he recovers from a knee injury.

The Grizzlies’ injury woes have garnered plenty of attention, and over the weekend NBA fans and the media took to social media to express their bewilderment at the team’s unfortunate injury luck.

Some fans suggested the use of superstitious methods to try to clear the Grizzlies of their brutal injuries.

Others began questioning the Grizzlies’ medical staff.

And then others were just standing in disbelief that the injury mistake was being repeated over and over again.

Whatever the case, injuries have certainly kept a talented Grizzlies team from reaching their true potential in the Western Conference. The Grizzlies underwent a semi-trade during the offseason trading Desmond Bain to the Orlando Magic for Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. They also added frontcourt depth with veteran big man Jock Landale.

Last season, the Grizzlies lost to the Golden State Warriors in the first round of the playoffs, then defeated the Dallas Mavericks to clinch the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot. They were eliminated by the Oklahoma City Thunder in four games, and Morant suffered a hip injury in Game 3 that kept him out of Game 4.
