The Nuggets are trying to cut the luxury tax right before the trade deadline

There are still a few hours left until the deadline and the official end of the trading season in the NBA. While the dust still settles with the number of completed tradesDenver The Nuggets are still hoping to get under the luxury tax with a small cost-saving deal before the deadline.

In the later hours NBA trade deadlineThey are nuggets hoping to find a recipient for Hunter Tyson, according to ClutchPoints’ NBA insider Brett Siegel. It’s understandable that the Nuggets aren’t interested in making a big splash at the deadline since their major deals were made in the offseason.

The Nuggets made two big changes this past offseason to improve the roster when they added Jonas Valanciunas and Cam Johnson. Although the team has struggled with multiple injuries this season, they are still 33-19 and in third place in the Western Conference standings. When healthy, the Nuggets looked like a title-contending team.

As for Tyson, the 37th overall pick in the 2023 NBA Draft has been used sparingly in his three seasons with the Nuggets so far. He played just over two minutes per game during his rookie season in 2023-24 and averaged just over seven minutes per game the last two years.

This season, Tyson has appeared in 21 games, including two starts, in 7.7 minutes of action. He averaged 2.2 points and 1.7 rebounds on 26.9 percent shooting from the field, 21.2 percent from the 3-point line and 84.6 percent from the free throw line.
