The patch on LeBron James’ jersey will become part of rare cards

If you haven’t noticed by now, LeBron James is playing in his 23rd seasonand that’s something you don’t see much in today’s sports world. That means it’s only right that the league does something special for James, which is what they’re doing by putting a special edition patch on his jersey.

Those patches will end be in trading cards also, according to Topps.

“BREAKING: LeBron James will wear special edition 23rd season jersey patches tonight in Sacramento; the city where he began his storied career in 2003. Patches will be removed from his jersey after each game and some will be placed on ultra-rare trading cards,” Topps wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

There’s no doubt that people will be looking for trading cards more than often after the announcement, and it’s going to be hard to get a pack that has the patch in it.

This should be something fans and even James should be excited about. Knowing he has the desire to get his own jersey patch is special and shows the longevity of his career. When you watch James in his 23rd season, it doesn’t even seem like he’s played that long. He’s putting up big numbers as usual, but the Lakers are also making sure to keep him around this 82-game season.

Head coach JJ Redick recently talked about James and his ability to play at a high level, even at 41 years old.

“He’s Greg Madduck at the end of his career. He doesn’t have the best stuff every night, but he’s got enough to win. I’m his catcher. I have to figure out how to call the pitch. Sometimes he tells me to F off and he calls his pitch, which is fine, too,” Redick said.

James also seems to understand how much he can do at this point in his career.
