It also doesn’t help that Pittsburgh has an 18-19-8 record in the Metropolitan Division. For a normally dominant franchise, the past three years have not been great. They missed the playoffs all those years. Even with Evgeni Malkin, Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang, their production wasn’t enough.

Now, the Penguins are taking a different route to try to salvage their poor season. Despite Crosby broke the Penguins all-time recordthose individual accolades do not equate to team success. There were even rumors that the team might blow up its roster. Jerry’s waiver could be the first significant move for the franchise during a tumultuous offseason.

The Penguins could make more moves after Tristan Jarry

However, the big 3 of Malkin, Letang and Crosby have more years behind them than ahead of them. Still, they had some nice young pieces, but they couldn’t hold on to them. For example, Jake Guentzel has emerged as a top winger in the NHL. However, the Penguins sent Guentzel to the Carolina Hurricanes for a 2025 NHL Draft third round pick.

Changing some of the young pieces revealed the age of this Penguins group. 14 of their players are 28+ years old. While experience isn’t a bad thing, it has reared its ugly head so far this season. A sub .500 record is not what the fans or the franchise expects.

They have dropped seven of their last games during this process. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette on Wednesday said “The Penguins have not said who will be promoted to Pittsburgh to form a tandem with Aleks Nedeljkovic, who was the only goaltender on the ice in Wednesday’s practice.

There was no indication of who would replace Dzhari as goalkeeper. Even a goaltending change may not save a struggling season for the Penguins. However, if the new goalie catches the hot hand, a turnaround could happen sooner rather than later.
