The Raptors surprise the Cavaliers on the road

The first match of NBA Cup and the Raptors’ first win! On the floor of the decimated Cleveland team (injured Darius Garland, Max Struss, Donovan Mitchell, Sam Merrill, Jarrett Allen), Darko Rajaković’s team managed to take advantage of the opportunity to achieve the second success in six games this season. In addition to the Barrett-Ingram-Barnes three, we will especially remember Jamison Bittle’s thunderous entry in the second half with his 20 points in 15 minutes, shooting 7/7!
The trio of Barrett-Ingram-Barnes perfectly launched the Raptors in the first quarter. Toronto not only took the lead, but even had a 13-point advantage after Sandro Mamukelaashvili’s three-pointer and Grady Dick’s dunk at the start of the second period (24-37).
Cleveland started its comeback with two consecutive 3-pointers by Jaylon Tyson, and ended the second half with a 7-2 run that was capped by two baskets by De’Andre Hunter to get back into the game at halftime (43-48).
Jamison Battle and Brandon Ingram too strong for these Cavs
In their moment, the Cavs continued the match with a 17-3 run led by the Ball-Mobley duo (60-51). Toronto, however, was not dismantled. Jamison Bate’s three 3-point baskets set the tone (67-65), and the pair of Ingram-Barnes even brought the Raptors back to the lead 12 minutes after 8-0 (77-81).
Evan Mobley multiplied his exploits to keep the Cavs in touch, but Toronto did not give up. Jamison Battle responded to Thomas Bryant’s hot shooting with another 3-pointer before turning it over to Brandon Ingram to finish the job (92-93). The winger did it by scoring 9 points in a row, three baskets including 2+1 and two free throws to put his team in a position of power with less than two minutes left (92-106).
In the end, it was Jamison Battle who punished the Cavs’ offensive approximations by lining up two more 3-point baskets to finish the match at 6/6 from long range and knock out Cleveland. 112-101 winners, the Raptors get a breath of fresh air before hosting Memphis and Milwaukee, while Cleveland hosts Atlanta this week.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
Royal battle. Great story of the night, about a player who didn’t come on in the first half and took his chance as soon as he came on and was even more determined at the end. 3-point specialist Jamison Bate went a perfect 6-of-6 from long range, going 3-of-3 to start, then making two more baskets in quick succession to seal the game. He finished with 20 points on 7/7 shooting, all in just 15 minutes!
Brandon Ingram fine fort. He is the player we have seen the least until then, which did not prevent him from being present when the team needed him. At work, the wing scored 9 straight points in “money time” to hold off the Cavs’ offense and finish with 20 points.
Evan Mobley too lonely. The only survivor of the five Kenny Atkinson kept the house as much as he could (29 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals), but he lacked more regular alternatives than the only De’Andre Hunter (26 points), even if Lonzo Ball and others also had good passes.
