The reality of the trade deadline will leave Lakers fans disappointed
Los Angeles The Lakers have a chance to make a move at the NBA trade deadline in early February. However, one NBA insider poured cold water on the team’s chances of making a big splash with acquisitions.
Los Angeles is in the playoff picture as the team goes through the ups and downs of the 2025-26 regular season. They hope to bounce back from all the injuries, especially with Austin Reaves recovering from a calf strain.
NBA insider Brett Siegel appeared on the Jan. 22 edition of Clutch Scoops to discuss the Lakers’ situation. His information about their plans for the final term will lower fans’ expectations, saying they can expect the team to aim for key players rather than players being thrust into the starting line-up.
“I don’t think Lakers fans are going to be too happy after the trade deadline just because they’re short on funds. And we’ve known that since the offseason. The Lakers are trying to find a three and a D wing that they can pair with LeBron, pair with Luka Doncic and really make a push this year in the Western Conference. It just hasn’t come true for them,” Siegel said: “Sie277.
“I just don’t see the possibility of the Lakers getting Andrew Wiggins before the trade deadline. So count Wiggins in. You count Herb Jones. Where does that leave them? Maybe a guy like Nagy Marshall is another name that has a lot of interest around the league, not just the Lakers, but several other contending teams, even though Dallas doesn’t want to trade.
What awaits the Lakers this season

It will be intriguing to see what the Lakers do at the trade deadline. They could improve their guard or frontcourt depth, raising their ceiling as a serious playoff contender this year.
Los Angeles has a 26-16 record on the season, and is in fifth place in the Western Conference standings. They are tied with the Phoenix Suns and Minnesota Timberwolves while trailing the Houston Rockets by 0.5 games and the Denver Nuggets by two games.
The Lakers continue their long road trip as they prepare for their next matchup. They face the Los Angeles Clippers on January 22 at 10:00 PM ET.
