The reason Bam Adebayo hates the Pistons’ loss is Andrew Wiggins
MIAMI – Like The Miami Heat defeated Duncan Robinson and the Detroit Pistons on Saturday night, it resulted in the team’s six-game winning streak being snapped, 138-135. With The Heat are looking for clarity with their relatively healthy rosterthe only player who stood out and proved his role once again is a veteran Andrew Wiggins.
In what was a frustrating game for Miami, Wiggins was the only constant in the contest as he scored 31 points on 10-of-15 shooting from the field, along with six rebounds, four assists and three steals. A batsman on both sides of the ball, his performance would see him captain Bam Adebayo saying he’ll “hate” how coming out will feel “like labor in vain” due to the collective loss of the team.
“There were a few games where he was kind of flying under the radar, but he was doing the little things,” Adebayo told ClutchPoints. “And he has this game today, where you see his ceiling, you see what he can be. I hate that it’s a wasted effort, but it’s good to get back out there, get into a rhythm and get into a flow, because he’s going to do nothing but help this team.”

While Wiggins took others to Miami on his own impressive excursions, such as Norman Powell and Tyler Herrowho scored 28 and 24 points, respectively, it was still not enough to beat Detroit. Still, seeing Wiggins thrive in his complementary role was a positive sight, speaking as he is “felt good” with your comfort level.
“I felt good on the offensive end and my teammates did a great job of just giving me good shots, some easy buckets to start with,” Wiggins told ClutchPoints.

Heat’s Andrew Wiggins on adjusting against the Pistons

While it is Heat star in Hero continues to rise and getting back to 100 percent after a long layoff, players like Wiggins will be key to the team’s starting lineup on both sides of the ball, as he’s known as a really good two-way player. Herro would highlight Wiggins downhill efficiency and aggressiveness, but Miami’s overall performance against the Pistons was disappointing.
Detroit would show its physicality right off the bat, totaling 76 points in the paint and taking advantage of 18 Heat turnovers for 28 points. Led by star Cade Cunningham, the Pistons were relentless on both sides of the ball, with head coach Erik Spoelstra mentioning to ClutchPoints how Wiggins “made an adjustment” early, and as the team watched the game unfold, it was too little too late.
I think he adjusted to how aggressive they were,” Spoelstra said. “It helped him knock down shots, but he was aggressive in transition, in his catch-and-go drives, he was assertive, really finishing with force at the rim, which is what you need to do or make the right plays. Like I said, offensively, I think we adjusted as the game went on, after the first quarter with the physicality, except for the turnovers.
“Taking care of the ball and making those reads against their denials, we didn’t do a good job with that. But Detroit showed us why they’ve been number one in the East so far. We’ve been an up-and-coming team, but it was a different level for large parts of the game.”
