The Rudy Gobert-Julius Randle duo is too powerful for Golden State
Despite the absence of injured Anthony Edwards and Mike Conley, it was Wolves who got off to the best start Julius Randle ultra aggressive (18-12).
Address Stephen Curryreturned after missing his team’s last five games, brings the Warriors back into the game, but dominance Rudy Gobert inside keeps Minnesota ahead by a score of (28-27).
Naz Reid (18 points, 7 assists) then took the lead early in the second quarter. He makes two of two from long range, but the absence of Rudy Gobert allows the Warriors to find their rhythm attacking the circle and regain their knack for taking the lead (48-42). it is Jaden McDaniels (17 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists) which wakes up Minnesota. Julius Randle immediately followed suit and it took a good pass from Pat Spencer (12 points) – Quinten Post (16 points) for Golden State to take the lead at the break (63-61).
Minnesota takes control
The Wolves turn up the intensity as soon as they return to the field. They made two turnovers and started with 6-0 in a space of 70 seconds, and the authoritarian Gobert finished (67-63). Frustrated with this start to the half, Stephen Curry takes matters into his own hands. He makes Rudy Gobert dance for a layup, then follows it up with a 3-pointer and a midrange shot to put his team back in front (75-72).
Julius Randle then matches up for the Warriors star. He started a 9-0 run that started with a game-winning shot and finished with two assists on 3-pointers by Jaden McDaniels and Donte DiVincenzo (85-79)! This time it was Jimmy Butler’s turn (15 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists), so far discreet, to be invited to the party. After that, Golden State ended the half with a 12-3 lead and led by three lengths before the final quarter (91-88).
Stephen Curry too lonely
After a tough run, the young pair of Rob Dillingham – Terence Shannon Jr. launched a 20-5 run for Minnesota to calm the Chase Center and hand over control of the match to Minnesota (108-96)!
Apparently Stephen Curry is the one trying to restart the machine. He scores five points in a row, and 8-0 gives Golden State hope with less than four minutes to play (110-106). The Chief continues his momentum and connects two triples that put the Warriors ahead (115-114)!
The last two minutes, however, belong to the Wolves. ex-warrior, Donte DiVincenzo(21 points) imitates his former teammate, Rudy Gobert is posterized by Quinten Post, and a sharp 11-3 brings victory to Minnesota.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Minnesota’s size makes a difference. Without Draymond Green or Al Horford, the Warriors tried to run away from the Minnesota big boys, but the Wolves’ size and scope wore down Golden State. Facing Quinten Post and an army of guards, Rudy Gobert dominated the racket and Julius Randle put all his weight on the opposing defense by connecting the attacks with a muscular circle. Minnesota won the battle 66-44 and had enough skill from Donte DiVincenzo late in the game to win.
– Stephen Curry’s lack of heat stroke. Out since Nov. 26, the Warriors star is still as hot as ever. He scored 14 of his 39 points (on 50% shooting) in the final quarter to erase a 12-point deficit, but ran out of steam in the final two minutes to pull off a shutout.
– Determined young Wolves. While on the court when the Warriors regained the lead late in the third quarter, Rob Dillingham and Terence Shannon Jr. made the difference early in the final quarter. Chris Finch did not spare his young leader just before the last period, but he responded in the best way. Terrence Shannon Jr. came to back him up and the two players scored 9 points during Minnesota’s 20-5 run that put the Warriors back against the wall.
