The Sixers are too strong for the Magic
Magic, with Noah Penda seed, starts the game better than the Sixers. Floridians quickly got to 12-2, while Tyrese Maxey shot from a distance (28-24). However, Nick Nurse’s men stay in the game thanks to offensive rebounds, which secure second-chance points. They finished the first period well and were still in touch at the break (54-53).
The 3-point clumsiness seen on both sides is confirmed in the second half, and it doesn’t work for the Magic, who lose a lot of turnovers. So much ammo for Tyrese Maxey, a lot more bite since coming back from the locker room. Philadelphia can go on a run and take the lead before the final act begins (79-83).
Especially since, smart, the Sixers no longer force themselves behind the arc: they know that the match will not be won there. Helping them is an Orlando offense in total trouble. Paolo Banchero and his teammates spent long minutes in the fourth quarter without a single basket. Logically, they ended up losing 91-103.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
– Catastrophic attack in Orlando. Only 91 points scored, 4/29 on 3-pointers and 18 turnovers. 48 minutes has been a long journey for Jamal Mosley’s men. Franz Wagner is greatly missed on such evenings. Huge.
– Sixers in the right car. This fifth win in six matches was not the best. But it was executed intelligently. Tirese McKay next at kickoff? It doesn’t matter. Joel Embiid and others went for offensive rebounds (21) to fuel the scoring. Then the Sixers took advantage of the turnovers and managed to slow down the 3-point attempts. It was not the greatest success, but it was controlled.
– Noah Penda’s first mandate. The French wanted forces his coach to leave him on the field : a successful bet since, for the first time, he was a starter. He showed himself offensively in the beginning, doing simple things, then at the end of the match, he missed 3-point attempts. In the middle? Not much in attack, but activity in defence. He finished with 5 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks in 30 minutes.
