The Sixers blow out the Raptors in response

We doubted Philadelphia didn’t appreciate having their hair cut on a pole the day before 2+1 by Scotty Barnes. The Sixers got their revenge in that night’s “rematch,” still in Toronto, as they combined art and style to win 115-102 after dominating the debates from A to Z, fueled by Tyrese McKay still impressive (33 points on 10/16 shooting, 6/9 from distance).

Brandon Ingram and Immanuel Quickley did their best to get Toronto (11-7) off to a good start, but the duo was quickly eclipsed by a steady barrage of 3-pointers that continued to add to the deficit. In the blink of an eye, Tyrese Maxey scored 8 points in a 10-0 win over the Sixers (19-27) to end the first 3/4 on the road and take over the Edgecombe-George-Embiid trio. Kelly Oubre went with his basket from behind the arc to end the first quarter with a festive feeling (28-45).

Philadelphia kept it that way momentum match by the break, continuing to enjoy 3-pointers through Quentin Grimes and VJ Edgecombe twice, enough to put the stunned Raptors down 29 lengths at the break (51-80)! The deficit thus increased to +33 in favor of the Sixers on a new 3-point basket signed by VJ Edgecombe (54-87). Then Toronto began to pull its head out of the water, with two baskets by Colin Murray-Boyles, then 13-2, which again caused uncertainty at the end of the third quarter (77-95).

Jamal Sheed’s 2+1, Scotty Barnes’ dunk, then a three-pointer followed by AJ Lawson’s good defense gave the fans at the Scotiabank Arena reasons to believe at the start of the final quarter (88-105). Late baskets by Tyrese Maxey and Joel Embiid quickly calmed the Toronto fans, who quickly made up for it by demanding Kyle Lowry get on the floor. Nick Nourse finally granted their request, and Toronto finally bowed out, but in a good atmosphere…

WHAT TO REMEMBER

Kyle Lowry in the spotlight. At the end of the match, “VE VANT KILE” quickly descended from the stands of the Scotiabank Arena and the veteran leader had the privilege of playing the final minutes of the match. With a standing ovation, he was cheered on by former fans until the end. Although he missed three attempts from distance, he received another standing ovation at the end of the match before being celebrated by his teammates and saluted by his opponents. He left with a match ball as a souvenir.

Philly brings out the heavy artillery. The Sixers did whatever it took to put the game away in one half, relying on brash 3-point prowess. First quarter on 7/8 in practice to set the tone, for a skill percentage that held up to 75%, on 12/16, just before the break. Simply breathtaking, and also demoralizing for the locals, who tried to turn things around after the break, in vain…

Record. Toronto has never conceded 45 points in the first quarter this season. This is now being done since last night. Against the fired-up Sixers, the 84 points scored in one half in 2011 against the Warriors could have fallen. Finally, Philly was reasonable, scoring only 80 points against the home team in the first half (51-80). It will be up to the Raptors to come back quickly, why not tomorrow in Indiana.
