The Suns GM wants to keep a cool head ahead of Phoenix’s good season
This is undoubtedly the biggest surprise so far in the Western Conference. Who would have imagined in October 2025 Suns in seventh place, just three wins from the podium, at the time of the All-Star game?
Not Kevin Durant anyway, a former resident of the house and who recently said this : « Look at Phoenix, who no one saw as good and who once on the field looks like a title contender. »
After a disastrous last season in terms of ambition and roster, the franchise did a major cleanup last summer. Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal left when Mike Budenholzer was fired and replaced by Jordan Ott. Even at the top, there were changes, with Brian Gregory taking over for James Jones as GM.
In short, a big cleaning, from floor to ceiling, with the idea and desire to start from scratch. A few months later, it was more than a success and everyone in Arizona was laughing again.
No sense of reward, no acceleration
“We are in a good situation. We have made progress in many areas”, he can only rejoice the new GM. “The fans, the people of Phoenix and maybe even the press can feel it. We’ve made changes and we’re moving in the right direction. I like where we are now.”
We can already say that the elections last summer were right and paid off. “The word reward is too strong because we’re still in the process, but it’s nice”tempers Brian Gregory. “It is a pleasure to see our level and to see the joy with which the players are developing.
So, with the playoffs on the horizon, could the rebuild that began last summer take a new turn faster than expected? And here the leader does not get excited. “I don’t think it speeds anything up”he answers. “It just makes the journey more enjoyable.” »
