The Trinidad Chambliss 2026 waiver is being updated

Ole Miss football is still in the emotional throes of a historic postseason run, but the uncertainty is is beginning to cloud the Rebels’ long-term prospects at quarterback.

CBS Sports College Football Insider Matt Zenitz delivered a sobering update Sunday night regarding Ole Miss star quarterback Trinidad Chambliss and his pursuit of an extra year of eligibility.

“While the waiver claim is still pending and nothing definitive yet, there is pessimism at this point that Ole Miss star KB Trinidad Chambliss will end up getting an extra year of eligibility, sources tell me and Chris Hamer. Zenitz posted on X, formerly Twitter.

That update comes at a time when Chambliss’s profile has never been higher. Former Division II Ferris State quarterback the author of one of the most memorable plays in recent Ole Miss history during the Sugar Bowl, throwing for 362 yards and two touchdowns while leading Rebels to a dramatic 39-34 victory over the Georgia Bulldogs.

He ended the night by leading the game-winning field goal in the final minute, the moment he led Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals.

Despite the attention, Ole Miss remains completely focused on the present. The rebels prepare to face Mario Cristobal relentless Miami Hurricanes in the Fiesta Bowl on January 8 with a chance to advance even further. Chambliss remains the driving force behind that push, having assumed the starting role earlier this season Austin Simmons suffered an ankle injury in week two against the Kentucky Wildcats.

Chambliss’ rise has been meteoric. Throw-in against Arkansas Razorbacks in Week 3he passed for 353 yards and a touchdown in his SEC debut and never let up. During the season, his play elevated him into the Heisman Trophy discussion, where he ultimately finished eighth while leading Ole Miss to a CFP berth.

However, the looming question of eligibility casts a shadow over the future. And, Zenitz’s report noted that “waiver claims are still being sought,” leaving the door open, albeit narrow, for Chambliss to return in 2026.

For Pete Golding, who is in charge for his first full season at the helm in Oxford, Chambliss’ potential availability next fall could shape roster planning and expectations. For now, though, Ole Miss’ priority is clear — maximize the present, chase history in the postseason and let the waiver process play out when the dust finally settles.
