The Tyler Shough hype train is running full steam ahead

The New Orleans Saints maybe end the 2025 season with a loss. However, in the most important position, optimism suddenly overflows. Despite a heartbreaking Week 18 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, belief surrounding rookie KB Tyler Shough it just got stronger. Teammates and coaches are increasingly convinced that the Saints have found their long-term answer under center. As linebacker Demario Davis bluntly put it, New Orleans now has a “solidified KB1.” That statement carries real weight after years of instability at quarterback.
The Saints’ 19–17 loss in Atlanta was a bittersweet end to an otherwise encouraging late-season stretch. Shough nearly scripted another comeback. He threw a touchdown late in the fourth quarter to keep hopes alive before a critical interception and a botched onside kick sealed New Orleans’ fate. Despite this, the performance fits a familiar pattern. Shough showed composure, aggressiveness and competitiveness despite an offense that lacked multiple key factors. A narrow defeat ultimately confirmed the Saints’ elimination. It also handed the NFC South to Carolina via tiebreaker.
In diminutive terms, Shough’s 2025 season reads like a foundation year. After taking over as the starter midway through the season, he led New Orleans to a 5–4 record. Among them were impressive road wins over division rivals. He finished with 2,384 passing yards, 10 touchdowns, six interceptions and three rushing scores. Those numbers don’t fully reflect his command of the offense or his growth under pressure. Perhaps it says more how the dressing room rallied around him. That’s even as injuries eroded the supporting cast almost every week.
Now comes the intriguing part. The Saints enter the offseason armed with cap flexibility and valuable capital. This gives them a realistic path to build around Shough rather than looking for another stopgap. Finding a quarterback is the hardest part. New Orleans believes it has already been done. That’s why the Shough hype train isn’t slowing down anytime soon.
