The Warriors face their perennial challenge: turnovers

Draymond Green and the WarriorsOf course, it’s only preseason, but Warriors lost nearly 22 turnovers per game over four preseason games. Only the Nets (24.3) and Pacers (23.7) are doing poorly, but in Golden State, all groups accumulate turnovers, even those that should play in the regular season.

“Generally we’re not quite there at this stage” assures Steve Kerr. “But we have set our strategies, offensive actions that we want to install.

Like Victor Wembanyama at SpursJonathan Cumminga has lost a lot of balls since the start of pre-season. But it’s far from the only one, and it’s necessarily a big problem for the Bay franchise, which has been one of the most expensive teams for years.

Helping the Big Three

“We just have to reduce the turnovers at the beginning of the match. Continue to distance the game” assure Gary Peyton II. “We just have to position ourselves and play in the space we have. We have a lot of players who are good at taking up space, so if we give each other space, it will go well.”

However, since Steve Kerr took over in 2014, the Warriors have finished in the “bottom 10” in turnovers 8 times in 11 seasons. This is a consequence of the style of play advocated by the coach, with a lot of movement and cuts… but also the greed of his players.

“There’s only three guys . . . who are allowed to loose balls. Everyone else is off limits. That’s the rule.”concludes Gary Peyton II, evoking that Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler etc Draymond Green. “Steve (Kerr) is explaining to them what we can do to help them reduce their turnovers.”
