The young Blazers star will most likely get a $100 million extension

Portland Trail Blazers Shaedon Sharpe has gotten stronger since joining the NBA as the seventh overall pick in the 2022 draft. After a strong campaign last season where he averaged 18.5 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game, Sharp will enter the 2025-26 season knowing that he will be a restricted free agent next summer.
However, according to Jake Fisher of The Stein Line magazine, Sharpe is currently considered as the most likely rookie player to secure an extension before the October 21 deadline.
“Shaddon Sharpe is perhaps the most likely extension of a rookie still in contention to cross the finish line. Given Sharpe’s strong play in the preseason and stunning scoring potential, multiple teams we consulted continue to project Portland and Sharpe to find a deal within the four-year, $100 million contract Giddy ultimately secured,” he wrote in Chickasaw.
In the four preseason games so far, Sharp has averaged 19.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game while shooting over 45% overall. The 22-year-old is his team’s leading scorer and is considered the most likely to sign the roughly $100 million extension that Josh Gieder signed with the Chicago Bulls.
This figure ($25 million per year) places Sharp in the ranks of advanced guards who have not yet become All-Stars but project to be elite scorers or secondary playmakers. The Blazers’ decision to move Jrue Holiday and focus on rebuilding around Henderson and Sharp makes such an extension logical.
It also protects them from potentially spending more money next season as Sharpe becomes a restricted free agent. That means the Rockets will potentially have to match offers from other teams, opening up a potential bidding war.
Therefore, it appears to be in the best interest of the franchise to lock him up in the current offseason. Regardless of how things stand, the Rockets haven’t made their move yet.
