Tim Donaghy Uncovers Bombshell FBI Text About David Stern Covering Up His Scandal
Recently, the NBA world was rocked by a scandal involving the Portland Trail Blazers head coach Chauncey BillupsMiami Heat point guard Terry Rozier and former Cleveland Cavaliers player and coach Damon Jones were arrested by the feds on separate but related illegal gambling charges. Rozier was already famous to be the target of a gambling investigation, but still, the arrests continued to erode the foundation of trust the NBA hopes to have with its fan base.
Recently, disgraced former NBA referee Tim Donaghy, who admitted to betting on games while a league official and was sentenced to prison time for it, explained why he thinks this latest scandal is just the tip of the iceberg.
“I got a message from one of the FBI agents who worked on my case, and he basically said they’re not going to be able to cover this up like they covered mine….David Stern really led the whole investigation and it was shut down by the highest level people,” Donaghy told the PBD Podcast, via Fadeaway World.
Donaghy’s allegations of a cover-up by the late NBA commissioner David Stern are explosive to say the least, although it should be noted that Donaghy has had a history of making headline-grabbing claims in the years since his ouster.
A big scandal for the NBA

Regardless of whether Donaghy’s claims about the David Stern era are true or not, the NBA certainly has a huge public relations crisis after the latest arrests of Rozier, Billups, Jones and numerous co-conspirators.
Making matters even more embarrassing for the league is the way it has continued to align itself closely with sports betting over the past few years, both through its television partners and on its own. In addition to Rozier, former Toronto Raptors big man Jontay Porter was kicked out of the league for gambling, and Malik Beasley is also under investigation for something similar.
Either way, this is certainly not the story Adam Silver wanted in the headlines during the first week of the season.
