Timothée Chalamet tells Carmelo Anthony why he skipped the Met Gala for the playoff game

Earlier this year, the actor was nominated for an Oscar Timothee Chalamet skipped the Met Gala in favor of watching a New York Knicks playoff game.

This was an unprecedented move, given how exclusive the Met Gala is. However, Chalamet set his prioritiesand told former All-Star Carmelo Anthony about the decision on his podcast, 7 p.m. in Brooklyn.

“I had to be locked in, man,” Chalamet said. “That Knicks run last year … I think it was the most fun time of my life. It was four months, I’m not even kidding. It was just (Madison Square) Garden was electric. I met (Carmelo Anthony) courtside for a little while, I saw Stephon Marbury there. I love Stephan; he has a soft spot in my heart.

“Even though the team didn’t go as high as they wanted, Stephon is New York. Like Sebastian Telfair is New York — shout out, Stephon Telfair,” he continued.

Chalamet loves the team, and had high praise for Jalen Brunson. He thinks Brunson is the perfect “anti-superstar” for the Big Apple.

As Chalamet noted, the Knicks’ last playoff run was a lot of fun for the fans. They made it to the Eastern Conference Finals before being eliminated by the Indiana Pacers.

It really came to fruition in the conference semifinals against the Boston Celtics. They won the first two games in thrilling fashion (he skipped the Met Gala to watch the first game). The streak would last six games before New York would knock off Boston.

Chalamet was there for quite a drive, attending several games. He even traveled to attend away games, showing his commitment to the team. He was too seen with fellow actor Ben Stillerwho is also a huge Knicks fan.

If the Knicks make the playoffs again during the 2025-26 season, expect Chalamet to attend more games. The Knicks will play the San Antonio Spurs in the NBA Cup Finals. The game will be played at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
