Todd Bowles throws players under the bus after TNF collapse

Tampa Bay Buccaneers coach Todd Bowles was deep in his feelings after them suffered a one-point loss to the Atlanta Falcons29-28, on Thursday.

The Buccaneers had a comfortable 14-point lead in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons, already out of the playoffs, mounted a fierce rally. Kyle Pitts caught a late touchdown, while Zane Gonzalez kicked the game-winning field goal, stunning everyone at Raymond James Stadium.

After the game, Bowles apparently put the blame on his players.

“The coaches have done everything they can. This is a player-driven team the last four or five weeks. You have to execute. They have to hold each other accountable,” Bowles said, per Fox Sports’ Greg Aumann .

“As a coach, you can sit until you’re blue in the face. Until they (players) start holding each other accountable and doing the little things right, and that’s not everyone, we’re talking about a small, select few. But the small, select few is what gets us to victory. Until that happens, it’s not going to be good.”

It’s almost a mortal sin for a coach to publicly embarrass his players, but at this point, Bowles must be feeling desperate to light a fire under his team.

The Buccaneers have dropped five of their last six assignments, falling a half game behind the Carolina Panthers for first place in the NFC South.
