Top 3 D’Angelo Russell Destinations With Wizards Coming Soon

Recently, the The Washington Wizards shook things up traded to the Dallas Mavericks great man Anthony Davis. The less talked about part of the trade was the rush hour D’Angelo Russellwho was also sent to the nation’s capital in the deal.

However, recent reports suggest that Russell maybe not in DC for a long time.

“We’re going to try to figure out what’s best for him and what’s best for the team,” Wizards general manager Will Dawkins said, per ClutchPoints NBA insider Brett Siegel.

“Russell will not report to Washington and could hit the buyout market this coming week,” Siegel reported on X, formerly Twitter.

If Russell does indeed hit the buyout market, here are some destinations that could make sense for the guard.

The Boston Celtics currently have little need for scoring off the bench after jettisoning Anferni Simmons at the trade deadline in exchange for Chicago Bulls big man Nikola Vucevic.

Their lack of shooting from the bench was on full display Sunday, as the team shot just 17 percent from beyond the arc in a loss to the New York Knicks.

While Russell may not completely solve this problem, he would give Joe Mazzulla another player who can get hot on a nightly basis, and he could more or less replicate the production that Simmons has provided for the first half of this season.

The Miami Heat played the vast majority of this season without Tyler Hero, and after the team went inactive at the NBA trade deadline, Pat Riley would do well to try to add more offensive firepower in the buyout market.

Russell has some well-documented flaws and may not necessarily fit Erik Spoelstra’s defense-first style of play, but for a Heat team that doesn’t have much perimeter shot creation outside of Norman Powell, taking a chance on Russell could be a risk worth taking.

The Houston Rockets have been on the struggle bus in recent weeks, finally getting back on track with a win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday afternoon.

Reed Shepard has suffered a major slump in the secondary over the past month, and Russell’s veteran experience could be just what the team needs to help reignite the offense and give them some microwave scoring off the bench, especially on nights when Shepard’s shot isn’t falling.
