Top prospect Sebastian Walcott undergoing Tommy John surgery

As it is The Texas Rangers are preparing to enter the Skip Schumaker eraSebastian Walcott looked set to make a big impact. However, those plans are now on hold.
Walcott is set to pass Tommy John Surgery, which will likely force him to miss most, if not all, of the 2026 season, via Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News.
Entering the 2026 season, Walcott ranks as seventh overall prospect in all of baseballvia MLB Pipeline. He is a key part of Texas’ future. While his 2026 season will be great, the Rangers will pay close attention to his recovery. Once they get back on the diamond, they can then plan again for his ascension to the major leagues.
Through a 293-game hitting streak in the minor leagues, Walcott hit .258 with 31 home runs, 139 RBI and 71 stolen bases. During the 2025 campaign, the infielder hit .255 with 13 home runs, 59 RBI and 32 stolen bases. His speed will be a key element to his success. If Walcott’s power continues to develop, he’ll have a chance to be a 20/20 prospect in the major leagues.
Working in his favor toward his eventual jump to the MLB is his versatility. Walcott has played both shortstop and third base, which means the Rangers can improve his field position.
But now it will be a much longer road to reach the majors. Walcott has yet to appear above the Double-A level, which is why the Rangers would likely want him to get at least some Triple-A seasoning. With that plan on hold until late 2026, if not 2027, Texas fans will have to be patient for Walcott’s debut.
However, Rangers hope this is a minor setback, despite how serious the procedure is. Texas are counting on Walcott’s pedigree to carry over into the future and he’ll be a key contributor to the lineup when he’s ready.
