Trade deadline business could herald the return of Jayson Tatum

The Boston Celtics they’ve had a lot of ups and downs this season, and many thought they would struggle somewhat, especially without their best player. So far, they are proving the doubters wrong and are one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. led by Jaylen Brown, Derrick Whiteand other key players in the team.

With the trade deadline still a month away, the Celtics could be looking to make some moves to upgrade their team, and there is a contract that can be traded they have to do something, according to NBA insider Jake Fisher.

“Boston has Anfernee Simmons’ $27.6 million salary looming as a sizable contract that could contend for its own potential front-line addition, and the Celtics, sources say, have indeed been eyeing the big-man market for potential trade options for some time,” Fisher wrote.

Regardless of what they do at the trade deadline, it could be tied to a possible late-season return from Tatum.

“One well-placed observer whispered this week that the Celtics’ deal at the deadline — whether or not they trade for a big man and how significant the trade is — should serve as a useful hint as to their plans for a postseason comeback Jayson Tatum” Fisher wrote. “As our publisher recently noted, Tatum told Friend of Stein’s line Chris Haynes that he intends to return from last May’s torn Achilles before this season’s playoffs. An official timetable for Tatum’s return has not yet been announced.

Tatum seemingly left the door open for a possible return, and looking at his rehab videos, he honestly looks like he could be back on the field today. Of course, it doesn’t work that way, and Tatum has to meet the standards to even be considered ready to work.

The playoffs are still a few months away, giving Tatum plenty of time to bounce back.
