Trae Young challenges ‘comedic’ haters with scathing warning

The The Atlanta Hawks have had a mixed start to the season and are currently 1-2 after losing 117-100 to the Oklahoma City Thunder. Trae Young had another disappointing shooting night, going 5-12 from the field and returning with 15 points, 10 assists and four rebounds.
After the game, he had a simple message for his haters, referring to a type of criticism he continues to receive from personalities like Patrick Beverley and other social media users.
“I can’t adjust my game. I can’t play with this guy or this guy. I mean, it’s very comical to me,” Young says. “It’s very funny. There’s so much stuff, man,” he told ESPN.
Young acknowledged the uncertainty of the extension. He has a $49 million player option next season and is eligible for a four-year, $229 million maximum, but claimed he wasn’t concerned, instead revealing his focus is on winning.
“There are a lot of misconceptions about me. They will change over time, and I really believe that. And I feel like a lot will change this year. If we’re healthy, I think the world better be ready for what’s coming,” he said.
Two weeks before camp, Patrick Beverley questioned Young’s leadership and said former teammates didn’t like playing with him; Young responded on his podcast, telling Beverly to “provide your source” and saying he was never intimidated by “Patti Bev.”
Young said he’s “willing to pass the ball,” provided his teammates want to and can get the attention of the defense, and he expects “a lot more catch-and-shoots.” In the offseason, Atlanta positioned more help for Young, including the additions of Kristaps Porzingis, Nikhil Alexander-Walker and Luke Kennard.
The 27-year-old guard clearly believes not only in his own abilities, but also in the skill of this new-look team around him. The Hawks now travel to the United Center to face the Chicago Bulls, who are 2-0 so far.
