Trae Young, Jaylen Johnson sound on Atlanta’s ugly defense

ATLANTA, Georgia – Atlanta The Hawks have several capable offensive linemen in their team. With that comes a lot of points on the scoreboard every night. So it was no surprise that the Hawks put up 150 points against the Chicago Bulls.
The only problem for the Hawks – and the biggest problem – was that they gave 152 points.
Much like the Hawks, the Bulls have several players who can score the ball. They got what they wanted for most of the game, and the Hawks came from behind. At halftime, the Bulls had 83 points and the Hawks had 73. To finish the game, the Hawks allowed 66 points in the paint, 26 points on the fast break and 57 points off the bench.
The Hawks did what they had to do offensively. Jalen Johnson scored 35 points, and Trae Young scored 35. That one problem only hurt them in the end.
“It’s a little tough when you give up 80 points in the first half,” Jaylen Johnson said after the game. “It’s kind of embarrassing. We just have to recover. It looks like they’re back in two days, so hopefully we can cut back on some of the things we’re doing.”
This was it Young’s second game back since returning from injury. His minutes are limited from 20 to 26, and he looked like he was on the floor all night, scoring and getting his teammates involved.
“It was good. Not good enough,” Young said. “We didn’t win the game. That’s all I care about. I had all the numbers. I’ve put up the numbers before. We’ve got to win and tonight we just couldn’t get enough stops. 150 points is enough points to win the game. It’s not that they stopped us at all; we were able to get them back (and we didn’t just get the points to bring them back). stop them from scoring quickly.”
The Hawks can’t stop themselves in losing to the Bulls
Although the Hawks came from behind for most of the game, they had some extra gas late in the third and fourth quarters to make it a game. The Hawks managed to get a four-point lead at the same time, but they didn’t have it for long. The bulls charged back and never looked back.
The Hawks made a late push to make it a two-point game with four seconds left, but Young was unable to make the shot.
“Teams come in here and play fast against us, and we have to figure out how to prevent teams that want to play fast from beating us this way,” Young said. “They’ve had our number the last few years playing this way, and we’ve got to figure out how to stop that in the next game.”
“I think in the first half we had a lot of breakdowns from an execution standpoint,” head coach Quin Snyder said. “Both teams shot well; we just have to do more to affect the percentage where the shots aren’t as clean. I thought we did a better job of that in the second half, as far as making them work more. The first half, our transition defense wasn’t as good as it should have been, but mostly, we have to be better defensively.”
The Hawks, once one of the better defensive teams earlier in the season, have taken a few steps back over the past few weeks. It’s still a long season, but if they want to get back to their winning ways, that’s the first thing they’ll need to fix.
