Trae Young of the Hawks dismissed the reminder statement after a 43-point game against the Suns

In the game he is in The Atlanta Hawks were without Jaylen Johnson and De’Andre Hunter, it took a little more than everyone else to get the win. They got exactly what they needed, and they received from a known person in Trae Youngwho finished with 43 points to help the Hawks beat the Phoenix Suns 122-117.

This year, Young didn’t have as many shot attempts as usual, but he did a good job of getting his teammates involved, leading him to lead the league in assists.

“Guys seem to be more concerned about me passing now than me scoring,” Young said after the game. “Sometimes you have to remind them that you can score too.

“I know what we’re capable of, even when guys are out. We can go out there, make some noise and make some plays. That’s what we did tonight. But we always have to give a little more, myself included. I can’t just ask everyone else to give a little more when the guys are out and not expect me to do more. It’s something I take on myself, but we all played a big factor in giving that little bit more.”

Outside of Young, Onyeka Okongwu finished the game with 22 points and 21 rebounds, controlling the paint on both sides of the ball. Garrison Matthews knocked down five 3-pointers, and Whit Krejci finished with 15 points, five rebounds and six assists. Krejci was more aggressive than usual and had the job of guarding Kevin Durant for much of the game with Zachary Rizacher in foul trouble.

In the fourth quarter, the Hawks started with two straight 3-pointers, and then got some great shots from several players to help them get the win.

After the game, the head coach Quin Snyder paid tribute to Trae Young for his 43-point game, and the opportunity to step up with Jalen Johnson and De’Andre Hunter.

“His shot attempts are down, and to his credit, it doesn’t bother him at all,” Snyder said. “He doesn’t take a lot of shots because he distributes more, but he also scores when we need him to score.” And he did that during the game with Dre and Jalen there. Tonight he had to do it longer during the game.”

Young played 38 minutes, which includes the entire third quarter. The Hawks entered the fourth quarter with a lead, but they could have done without him on the floor.

“The biggest thing I kept telling him is we don’t want to just rely on you every possession because it’s going to wear down,” Snyder said. “They throw multiple defenders at him.” He’s used to it, but that’s why it’s so important for us to run and that includes the other guys when we need it when the game slows down, he’s fresher. Tonight was one of those nights where we needed his scoring in attack, not just his play in attack.”

For Young, he has only one goal in mind.

“I’m literally just trying to go out there and win,” Young said. “Earlier in the game I obviously try to get my guys involved because I need them later in the game when teams decide they want to trap and get the ball out of my hand.”

All season long, the Hawks have continued to show fight and resilience no matter who is in the lineup, and they did so once again when several players stepped up and provided the edge.
