Trae Young sends heartfelt message to Atlanta after video

The Washington Wizards are trusts Trae Young to help them get through their torturous long rebuilding, but before they do acquired it in the trade last January, the four-time All-Star point guard breathed new life Atlanta Hawks. Although the union eventually ran its course and both sides agreed it was time to part ways, Young was responsible for many exciting moments at State Farm Arena. He officially received the flowers on Tuesday evening.
Before facing the wizards, The Hawks released a nice tribute video for the 2021-22 third-team All-NBA selection, which featured his biggest shots, a nutmeg on Kevin Durant in the 2024 NBA All-Star Game, and of course, his famous bow at Madison Square Garden after eliminating the New York Knicks in the playoffs. The fans flooded the building with applause and appreciation. Young returned the love, but still he needed some time to process his emotions after returning home.
He switched to X after Washington’s 119-98 loss. “I’m still gathering my thoughts,” the No. 5 pick in the 2018 NBA draft announced. “My love for Atlanta is eternal.”
Young is still on the sidelines with a sprained MCL and contusion of the quadriceps, so he had the luxury of really enjoying the appreciation of the crowd throughout the evening. The 2024-25 assists champion is committed to helping the Wizards compete in the East moving forward, but he will forever be tied to the ATL.
Trae Young led the team to an incredible trip to the Eastern Conference Finals in 2022, something the Hawks have accomplished just one other time since moving to Atlanta in 1968. He is also the franchise’s all-time leader in 3-pointers made (1,295) and assists (4,837). The city is optimistic about this new era of hoops, but is clearly grateful for the great work that No. 3 has worn during his eight years with the team.
He obviously feels the same way. After this moment of closure, both sides will now turn the page on what they hope is a promising chapter in their NBA journeys.
