Trey Murphy III is making (a little) Pelicans history
Face au Heat, Trey Murphy III had a fiery first half: 21 points, including five 3-pointers. Four minutes before the break, he scored his fourth game-winning basket of the night. A shot far from trivial, as it allows him to overtake CJ McCollum and become leading 3-point shooter of Pelican history.
In the second half, Trey Murphy III made two more long shots to see his personal tally rise to 696 three-pointers, compared to CJ McCollum’s 692, but he couldn’t stop his team to bow on Florida soil (125-106), the Pelicans in last place in the West.
“All credit goes to him, he’s a workaholic,” underlines in any case James Borregocoach of the Pelicans, who have 8 wins and 29 losses. ” He will have a great career here. I am proud of him. He’s fantastic and continues to grow season after season and add new things to his game.”
The student surpasses the master
Trey Murphy III therefore surpassed C.J. McCollum, who held the record in just three and a half seasons with the Pelicans, by 223 games on the clock. It took Trey Murphy 62 more games to surpass him. After the meeting, the winger paid tribute to the man who now plays in Washington.
“It means a lot. He was an important veteran for me,” remembers Trey Murphy III. “He taught me a lot on and off the field. Seeing how he behaves helped me grow, both as a player and as a person. He was one of the first to send me a message.”
If Trey Murphy III has written his name in Pelicans history, it remains to be seen whether he will wear the jersey of the Louisiana franchise much longer. The wing is of interest to several franchises, including the Warriors, but New Orleans has closed the door on one transfer of his player against Jonathan Cumminga.
more broadly, Marc Stein reveals that the Pelicans would be very reluctant to trade Trey Murphy III.
