Two game suspension for Jose Alvarado, one for Mark Williams

Jose Alvarado and Mark WilliamsThe NBA is not the NHL. In other words, we don’t (yet) have the right to grab jerseys to clash during a basketball game, regardless of the reason for the disagreement.

The league reminded that yesterday by sanctioning Jose Alvarado etc Mark Williamsguilty that they clashed at the end of the third quarter: a push, an exchange of blows, then a separation before the situation degenerated further… all for a simple cart at the very beginning of the incident.

As a result, two players will be suspended and without pay while they are off the field. Jose Alvarado has been suspended for two games: the Pelicans’ leader will miss tonight’s game against the Knicks, then the one against the Bulls on Wednesday. He also lost $62,069, which is equivalent to the salary he would have received from gambling.

The league was lenient on Mark Williams, believing he suffered more than he caused the escalation. The Suns pivot therefore receives a one-game suspension, with a salary deduction of $36,072. That’s why he won’t be in uniform tonight in Washington.

Finally, note that no other player was penalized, which should be underlined as the other players followed the instructions in an attempt to calm down the altercation which could have taken on a completely different scale.
