Ty Jerome and Jaren Jackson Jr. return the favor for the Wolves

I Minnesota went through two days of debate previously at the FedEx Forum, the scenario of this second in line of conflict on the floor in Memphis will be quite different! Despite the injuries that have undermined the Grizzlies’ season, Tuomas Iisal’s troops continue to show that they have resources, in this case relying on the brand new tandem of Jerome-Jackson Jr. (30 and 19 points) that carried the team in important moments, but not only. Jalen Wells, Vince Williams Jr., GG Jackson and Cam Spencer provided valuable relays to hold off these Wolves led by Anthony Edwards with 39 points to go.
The revenant Ti Jerome attacked hard to try and put his team in the best possible position and the rest followed! A pass by Jock Landale followed, then 3-pointers by Vince Williams Jr., Olivier-Maxens Prosper, then Jaren Jackson to answer Anthony Edwards’ first layup (36-29). Ty Jerome regained control at the start of the second quarter before letting GG Jackson shine and then the Coward-Jackson Jr tandem to keep the home team at +8 at the break (66-58).
Pressure resistant
In turn, Anthony Edwards’ lieutenants did whatever it took to stay in the game after returning from the locker room and resist the rise of Jaren Jackson Jr. as Donte DiVincenzo, Julius Randle, Rudy Gobert and Jaden McDaniels took turns scoring. But finally Minnesota was able to come back (87-83) during another big pass from Anthony Edwards for a 10-0 lead.
It seemed that the Grizzlies had no solution to stop it, but they managed to come back before the end of the third quarter, returning to +12 thanks to the Williams-Jackson Jr. duo (98-86). Just when they could burst, the locals finally managed to deal a fatal blow to the Wolves by going back to +20, a 9-0 work masterfully orchestrated by Ty Jerome, serving for Vince Williams Jr. and Jaren Jackson Jr. from distance, not forgetting to try from behind the arc (109-89).
Because despite pressure from Anthony Edwards, Donte DiVincenzo and Jaden McDaniels, Minnesota fell to the imperious Cam Spencer to secure the win, with two 3-pointers keeping reasonable spacing before Ty Jerome let Memphis lead the way to safety over the final three minutes of the game, 137-12. Cedric Coward’s monumental dunk.
WHAT TO REMEMBER
That Jerome confirms. He was already impressed during his the first match of the season Saturday, and his second was in line with the previous one. His presence is reassuring and especially enhances Memphis’ attacking options when he has the ball in hand, through quality finishing, passing and vision of the game. Author of 19 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists in just 20 minutes, he has already successfully integrated into the new environment. All we have to do is keep our fingers crossed that we see him in action one day alongside Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. to get a true idea of the potential Memphis could see without repeated injuries…
GG and Marsupilma. We don’t know if he’s a fan of the yellow polka dot beast, but the Grizzlies winger put on a show in the same style, multiplying the flights anyway! An intense player, like his offensive rebound steal after a missed free throw, he made two key assists in the first half and then in the second half, punctuated by dunks that put the circle’s resistance to the test. GG gets an artistic stamp along with the Spencer-Wells-Williams trio which was equally valuable. Special mention is made of Cedric Coward’s dunk as the exclamation mark of a successful match for Memphis.
Contribution of the Grizzlies’ bench. Memphis has the distinction of having the most prolific bench in the league in terms of points. A trend that was reconfirmed last night with a sharp 52 to 13! The variety of her threats is also what made the difference in favor of the home team with 7 players with 13 or more points. Wolves, whose hierarchy was a bit frozen at the end of the match, would do well to take inspiration from this.
On the way (to) Memphis. Hardly time to bask in the win, the Grizzlies will now prepare for the rest and the upcoming schedule promises to be dangerous to say the least with 13 trips out of the next 19 matches! CIt got off to a rocky start with a five-game road trip that would take Memphis to the All-Star break.
