Tyler Hero to get rib MRI, miss game against Jimmy Butler, Warriors
MIAMI – After The Miami Heat got a stunning win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday night, 122-120, the team now embarks on a five-game road trip, though they will be missing a key piece to begin with. With The Heat want to continue their dynamic play since the win over the Thunder, the team will now have to continue to adjust without their star Tyler Herro.
The star guard will miss Monday’s highly-anticipated road opener against Jimmy Butler and the Golden State Warriors with a “right rib injury.” Previously listed as “finger/rib; contusion,” he missed significant time with a sprained toe, but after missing Thursday’s win, the team said it was more of a rib issue that kept him out.
Herro does not travel with Miami at the start of the trip, as he remains to do an MRI on the ribs to get a clearer idea of what he is dealing with. Monday night’s game against the Warriors will be the 32nd game Hero has missed, which includes missing the first 17 games of the season with offseason ankle surgery, then missing more time with a toe contusion.
If there is positive news for the team, Davion Mitchell and Jaime Jaquez Jr. were upgraded to probable for Monday’s game at Golden State as key players dealt with shoulder contusions and knee sprains, respectively.
Warmth Erik Spoelstra doesn’t expect Tyler Hero’s injury to be ‘long-term’

No doubt it was a a frustrating season for the Heat star in Hero and his injury woeshe played only 11 games, although head coach Erik Spoelstra expects that there will be no immediate problem “long term.” In 11 games, he averaged 21.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game while shooting 49.7 percent from the field and 35.8 percent from three-point range.
“I mean, the one at the beginning of the year, it was just something that comes in the season,” Spoelstra said of Hero’s injury-plagued season before the Oklahoma City contest. “You can’t control it, but there’s going to be day-to-day things that happen to everybody. We can’t necessarily look at them, because you’ve missed a big part of the first year where you’re going to have your normal things that happen in an NBA season. This shouldn’t be long-term, and we’re just going to continue to treat him and see how he reacts.”
Erik Spoelstra was asked about Tyler Hero missing his 31st game tonight, asked if it gets to a point where the team is moving forward through alternate routes:
“This shouldn’t be long-term. We’ll just keep treating him and see how he responds.”

Miami was looking for some sort of consistency in terms of keeping the team healthy, and Hero was the only player left out. There is a chance he could rejoin the team during the trip, depending on the results of the MRI.
Erik Spoelstra explains the “feeling” he has about the Heat
While the Heat wait for hopefully great news on Herro’s rib injury, the team is trying to outplay the defending champions and the league’s best team in the Thunder, going by their 35-8 record. Spoelstra talked about having a “gut feeling” that after the aforementioned victory comes a breakthrough, one that was needed for the “heartthrob” of the Boston Celtics last Thursday and the terrible road before.
“It always remains to be seen, but as a coach, sometimes you get a feel for something,” Spoelstra said. “When we came back from that disappointing road trip, that’s when you feel the competitive will to commit to doing whatever it takes, that doesn’t guarantee a win. I mean, obviously, we lost a heartbreaker to Boston. This could have easily gone a different way, but all three of these games, you see the Miami Heat will be ahead of the competition, and that team will certainly be ahead. From us the second half of the season, let’s go, this should be a lot of fun.

Either way, Miami is 22-20, which puts them in eighth place in the Eastern Conference, looking to pick up wins on this road trip, starting once again on Monday against Butler and the Warriors.
