Tyrese Maxey says the silent part about Jared McCain’s chat out loud

The Philadelphia 76ers have a particularly demoralizing 131-91 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday, with Philly puts in an embarrassing effort on national television in the return game on NBC. And as is the case after such losses, emotions can run high.

After the game, the 76ers guard Tyrese McKay expressed how he felt about his team’s decision to break away Jared McCainwho is the president of the 76ers Daryl Morey defended himself by saying that they were selling high on their selection in the first round in 2024.

“Jared was a close friend of ours. A great teammate. A great person. I definitely think we miss him. Of course. I’m not going to lie and say I don’t miss Jared,” Maxey said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia . “But I’m happy for him. I watch him (in) OKC. I certainly hope he does well every night.”

Regardless, Maxey said the 76ers don’t focus too much on what they can’t control because that’s just the nature of the beast.

“I don’t think we dwell on it. … (But) this is a business at the end of the day. I’ve seen a lot of people get traded that I don’t want to get traded. You can’t dwell on that,” Maxey added.

The 76ers could use Jared McCain right now

The reasoning behind the 76ers’ decision to trade McCain is not hard to understand. They had so much guard depth, and with Maxey entrenched as the main point guard for the team and VJ Edgecombe alongside him, McCain was supposed to be the team’s sixth man at best.

Regardless, the 76ers have competing aspirations, and McCain, a shooting guard who shoots well from beyond the arc, could ease their depth concerns. Instead, they now have to watch McCain is following in Isaiah Joe’s footsteps as another talented guard they lost to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
