Unrivaled league: Sabrina Ionescu loses

Bad news for the unrivaled league: Sabrina Ionescu will not play the 2nd season of this 3-on-3 women’s league. The New York Liberty star was forced to retire due to an injury suffered during the last WNBA season.
The league made that information official on Thursday, specifying that Ionescu will remain involved with Unrivaled through non-sports initiatives. “Even though I’m disappointed that I won’t be able to play this season, I’ll be rooting for Phantom”, Ionescu said in a statement. “I look forward to working with Unrivaled on media projects and continuing to support the league’s growth.”
A four-time WNBA All-Star, Ionescu participated in Unrivaled’s first season as a BC Phantom, averaging 18.2 points and 7 rebounds per game.
She’s not the only star absent this season as Unrivaled co-founder and 2025 league MVP Nafisa Collier also announced her retirement. The interior must pass surgery on both ankles and will be removed from the courts for an estimated period of between four and six months.
