Victor Vembanyama starts a thunderous new tradition after victory against OKC



The San Antonio Spurs (22-7) are in the middle of a a new, exciting era of basketballso it only makes sense that the team discover a new tradition at the Frost Bank Center. Tuesday night was the perfect time to break it up.

After a 130-110 win against the defending NBA champion Oklahoma City Thunder, confident Spurs star Victor Wembanyama pumped up the home crowd by rhythmically beating the drum. The crowd applauded, via Bleacher Report, the christening of what has the merits of a long and celebrated tradition. Vembanjama credited a passionate fan section known as the Jackals for helping to come up with the idea. The Alamo City is bursting with electricity right now.

San Antonio knew OKC was coming in vengeful mood after the semi-finals of the NBA Cup, but the team held firm and beat the champions. The Spurs outscored the Thunder 43-28 in the fourth quarter, showing remarkable composure and maturity few people expected before the season. Keldon Johnson scored a game-high 26 points on 10-of-16 shooting in just 22 minutes, 2024-25 Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle wasn’t far behind with 24, Harrison Barnes dropped 20 and Dylan Harper had 10 assists in 20 minutes. With Victor Vembanjama on a minutes limit, and De’Aaron Fox scoring just six points, the Spurs somehow left OKC in the dust. They are deep and hungry.
