Victor Vembanyama’s crazy opening week earns him respect

The San Antonio Spurs have started the season undefeated, and it should come as no surprise why. Victor Vembanyama makes his presence known in his third season in the league, and he has the stats to back it up. This led Vembanyama to earn honor for his strong play, according to the NBA.

“San Antonio Spurs forward Victor Wembanyama and Milwaukee Bucks forward Giannis Antetokounmpo have been named the NBA Western and Eastern Conference Players of the Week for the first week of the 2025-26 season (Oct. 21-26),” the NBA wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Vembanjama finished Week 1 averaging 33.0 points, 13.3 rebounds and 6.0 blocks per game to lead the Spurs to a 3-0 record. This is just the beginning of what the Spurs star will do this season, and the team could be really successful behind his play.

The scary part is that the Spurs aren’t fully healthy yet, as they wait for De’Aaron Fox to return. When he returns, it will be interesting to see how Spurs play and that could mean more opportunities for Vembanyama. As of now, he probably doesn’t mind taking on the big job because he looks unstoppable right now.

Victor Vembanyama is tearing up the league

Some thought it would be a few years before Vembanjama made a real mark on the league, but after looking at what he did in the opening week, it seems his time may be now. He’s put up big numbers in three games and it wouldn’t be a surprise if he continues to play at this level.

Vembanjama was recently opened about what helped him make the jump from season one to this season.

“I feel like it’s a mix of game knowledge, recognition, patterns on the field and, obviously, physical development,” Wembanyama said, via ClutchPoints’ Hector Ledesma .

“If I could, if I could have done it when I was 19 or 16, anytime, I would have done it,” Vembanyama continued. “I mean, I would try to do it. But there are some things that just take time, and I’m able to do it now. The proof is there, so there’s no reason not to.”

Frankly, it looks like Vembanjama can do whatever he wants on the pitch, and it may be for a while.
