Victor Wembanyama “confident” after knee scare
More fear than harm? Anyway, we hope so Victor Vembanyama. A few days later Nikola Jokić’s long-term injuryvictim of left knee hyperextension, that is the jewel of the Spurs who last night, at the beginning of the fourth quarter, got a big scare from a similar action against the Knicks.
In the fight for the rebound, the Frenchman simply landed badly, causing a nice twist to his left knee. Limping to his feet, he headed straight for the dressing room, angry and frustrated, shouting a few words to the fans before re-entering the corridor. “I just told them it was going to be okay”, did he slip after the match.
More exams to take today
He returned to the bench to watch the end of the match and encourage his teammates to come on crazy time for moneyhe has already convinced everyone with his stance and maintained the same stance at the press conference, even if further questioning still has to be done today.
« I feel good, it’s just a little sore, but I’m very confident. I was confident and on the verge of getting back into the game, they had to restrain me “, he said with a smile. It was just hyperextension. We still have to do tests to make sure everything is fine (…). I expect to be back for the next game, I don’t know what the staff thinks.”
His coach, Mitch Johnson, was more cautious, even if he too was convinced to see his leader back on the bench without being physically diminished, and thoroughly encouraging his partners.
“I haven’t had time to talk to the medical staff yet. But I saw what everyone else saw. He finished the match on the bench with his teammates and that made me feel good. It was nice to see him come back and finish the match with his teammates.”the Spurs coach slipped.
Preserved in Indiana on Friday?
Even if all signals tend to be green, the final decision will therefore rest with the medical staff. Asked about the possibility that he may no longer be eligible for individual trophies in case of injury and his potential over-commitment that can sometimes put him in danger, Victor Wembanyama tries not to think too much.
“I think about it of course, I also know that the staff will do their job regardless of all that. That’s what we ask of the staff and they are very good at it. They are very objective about it.”he added. “When I think about the action where I’m doing this hyperextension, really, I could be more careful about this kind of action. On the one hand, we also have this responsibility to give it our all. We also need that extra energy sometimes, it’s quite difficult to manage.”
However, the prospect of a “matchup,” at Indiana on Friday and then against Portland on Saturday, should encourage the Spurs to be cautious. The staff could thus save Victor Wembanyama a trip to Indiana to get him 100% fit for the Blazers reception…
