Victor Wembanyama drops a truth bomb ahead of the rematch against Knicks

The San Antonio Spurs they opened their eyes with wins against some of the best teams in the NBA in the first two months of the season. Doc three wins against the Oklahoma City Thunder Heading into their season, they also picked up road wins at the Denver Nuggets and Los Angeles Lakers, as well as wins over the Houston Rockets and Toronto Raptors. The candidate they did not defeat is New York Knicks. It’s something you don’t get lost in Victor Vembanyama on the eve of their New Year’s game.
“We owe them one,” said Spurs’ generational talent. “And we owe ourselves more than anything.”

The only meeting between the two so far proved to be unforgettable. They they faced each other for the NBA Cup finals after San Antonio’s first of the aforementioned triumphs against OKC. Although the Silver and Black controlled most of the game, Jalen Brunson and company used a big fourth quarter to capture the league’s third annual tournament championship.
“Of course, yes, we are looking forward to it,” Vembanyama said ahead of their second meeting.
Spurs and Knicks for the first meeting since the NBA Cup finals
Both teams have just two losses since Dec. 16, 124-113. For Spurs, the setbacks have occurred in their last two outings.
“The process, it’s been working pretty well so far. Obviously, these last two games haven’t gone the way we wanted, but, number one, I think De’Aaron Fox is (coming back from injury), but it’s not just him,” Wembanyama said after Fox returned from a one-game absence in a loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
“I think when Dylan (Harper) was out and then me, we didn’t get a lot of chances to play together. But the dynamic is good, honestly. Everyone can get their share of the ball and everyone is willing to share it, so it’s a good process,” continued the Spurs star.
The Dec. 16 battle against the Knicks marked just the second game in which Vembanyama, Fox, Harper and reigning Rookie of the Year Stephon Castle were all healthy at the same time. The fourth quarter that night was actually the first time all four were on the court together at the same time.
Since then, the The Spurs beat the defending champion Thunder twice moreincluding on Christmas Day officially won eight consecutive games because the league does not recognize the outcome of the NBA Cup Final as a record game. Vembanyama says it is a high level that may have affected his team recent losses to the Utah Jazz and Cavs.
“Yeah, maybe a little harder. But it’s harder for all 30 teams in the league. Even though everyone has a different history to this point in the season, I’d say it’s easier to lose sight of the little things that matter.”
Both San Antonio and New York enter the final game of 2025 with the same 23-9 record. It’s familiar territory for a Knicks team seeking a fourth straight playoff run, including a trip to the Eastern Conference finals last season. That’s the place Vembanjama wants to manage Spurs.
“Now we’re getting to the part of the season where we have to control (focus on every game) more than do amazing things.”
