Victor Wembanyama leads Spurs to franchise history 5 games into a season

Victor Vembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs have gone to a red hot start into the 2025-26 regular season, but they had a tough task ahead of them in Monday night’s game against the Miami Heat.
Despite Bam Adebayo’s 31 points and 10 rebounds, the Spurs knocked off the Heat for their fifth win of the season. It means the first time in the rich history of the Spurs franchise that the team started the season a perfect 5-0, if you can believe it.
When informed earlier this week that Spurs had never started a season 5-0, Victor Wembanyama said he wanted to achieve the feat in front of the home fans and he did not disappoint.
“It’s a great feeling,” Victor Vembanyama said after his fifth win. “I don’t think it’s a coincidence, we didn’t get this far randomly. We worked on it. We started the season strong and we have to continue that streak as long as possible, but it’s good to see results. Because we can play well and still not get as many wins as we want, but it’s good to have results and that pushes us.”
Vembanjama played 40 minutes on Thursday night and finished with 27 points, 18 rebounds, six assists, one steal and five blocked shots. Stephon Castle also added 21 points, six rebounds, eight assists, four steals and a blocked shot, rounding out a night in which six Spurs players reached double figures.
After the game, Vembanyama screamed loudly at the crowd, who cheered him back.
“It’s like an exclamation mark,” Vembanyama added. “It’s like we have a 99 percent chance to win the game, so I’m just feeding off that energy. It’s a great feeling because it was a great game and it’s a good feeling to have that relief and live it with these people all around us after all the effort we put in for 48 minutes.”
Vembanyama also became the first player in NBA history to record at least 150 points and 20 blocks in the first five games of a season. Vembanjama recorded 151 points, 73 rebounds and 24 blocks in five games.
