Victor Wembanyama teases playing for France this summer

On Sunday night, San Antonio Spurs star Victor Vembanyama participated at the NBA All-Star Game from Los Angeles, as a member of the World Team. Unfortunately, Vembanyama’s team failed to make it to the final round of the round-robin tournament, but The star still wears the spurs epic show for fans in attendance at the Intuit Dome.
Vembanyama represented France on Sunday as a member of the world team, and more recently as a star became 100% honest about his desire to play for his country in the 2027 World Cup qualifiers.
“Of course, that’s absolutely my goal,” Wembanyama said, according to Maxime Obin of LEQuipe on X, formerly Twitter. “But I hope I don’t make it in the first window – that would mean we’re all the way to the NBA Finals. I hope the timing is too tight (smiles). But for the August window, absolutely. That’s my goal to be there. Knock on wood, if I’m healthy.”
Spurs fans will also be hoping that Wembanjama will not be able to take part in the first window due to his participation in the NBA Finals. San Antonio had a great first half plus in 2025-26, currently sits comfortably in second place in the Western Conference and has knocked off the first-place Thunder on four separate occasions this season.
Meanwhile, Wembanyama has played at an otherworldly level this season, continuing to add to his offensive game, recently scoring 25 points in about seven minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers while maintaining his status as the game’s best defender by a mile.
While it’s rare for a team to go to the NBA Finals in their first playoff game together, the Spurs appear to have all the talent and confidence necessary to defy history and keep playing until June.
