Victor Wembanyama’s 101 game streak ended against the Thunder after a dominant win

In a 130-110 victory, the All-Star Victor Vembanyama and the San Antonio Spurs sent a message to the defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder. Vembanjama and Spurs can’t wait for Christmaswith a pair of wins equaling half of the losses in the NBA-leading Thunder’s 26-4 record. After the big win, where Victor’s streak of 101 consecutive games with at least one shutout ended, San Antonio can improve to 3-0 against Oklahoma City.

Tuesday night’s loss marked the first time the Thunder have trailed by 20+ points at any point this season. Spurs coach Mitch Johnson praised his team for maintaining their double-digit lead in the final frame, according to ESPN’s Michael C. Wright.

“We’ve had games this year where we’ve had big leads, and we’ve let them slip away, and we’ve ended up in turnovers,” Johnson said. “To see that little step tonight is huge for us. When we get those contacts, we have to continue to make those steps and make great decisions to maintain and extend the lead.”

While both teams shot above 54% from the floor, the Spurs’ defense put up rates that stifled the Thunder’s momentum in the fourth quarter. Keldon Johnson scored 25 points on 10-of-16 shooting, including five 3-pointers off the bench. Vembanjama, who is still on the minutes limit, reprized his role on the second unit and finished with a dozen points, five rebounds and three assists.

Stephon Castle (24 points, 4-for-6 from deep), Harrison Barnes (20-for-4 from deep) and Devin Vassell combined for 61 points on 19-of-27 shooting (70.3%), including 9-for-18 from three.
