VJ Edgecombe displays an unlimited engine on a contested layout
VJ Edgecombe showed how relentless his motor can be during Philly The match between the 76ers and the New York Knicks on Saturday night.
Edgecombe made incredible strides during his rookie NBA campaign. He has secured a full-time starting role thanks to his productive efforts on both sides of the ball, forming a solid backcourt tandem with him and Tyrese Maxey.
Edgecombe got going early during Philadelphia’s game against New York. The highlight came midway through the first quarter when Maxey passed the ball to the rookie quarterback, who quickly raced past multiple New York defenders to convert a heavy blow within the color.

It was a great highlight reel for VJ Edgecombe to create as the 76ers took a 66-58 lead over the Knicks at halftime.
The game started as a tight affair as Philadelphia led just 31-30 after the first quarter. The 76ers took further control in the second quarter, outscoring the Knicks 35-28 in the second period.
Shot selection, rebounding and scoring have made the difference so far in the game. The 76ers lead in all three categories after shooting 54%, securing 26 rebounds and 30 points from the line. It wasn’t the same for the Knicks after they made just 43% of their attempts, grabbed 19 rebounds and scored 14 points inside the line.
Three players scored in double figures for Philadelphia in the first 24 minutes of the game, including Edgecombe. He led the way with 18 points and two rebounds on 7-of-10 shooting from the field, including 4-of-6 from beyond the arc. It was Tyrese Maxey’s turn with 16 points and five rebounds, Joel Embiid had 11 points and four rebounds, while Paul George added six points and two blocks.
After the matchup against the Knicks, the 76ers will be at home for their next contest. They host the Denver Nuggets on January 5th at 8:30pm ET.
