VJ Edgecombe shuts down Dunk Contest speculation with 3-word rejection

With Philadelphia 76ers they already have one guaranteed participant in the 2026 All-Star weekend thanks to Tyrese Maxey was named an All-Star starter for the first time in his career, fans in the City of Brotherly Love are getting greedy.
Of course, Joel Embiid could still be benched because when healthy, he remains the main center of the Eastern Conference, and the team has several promising young players in VJ Edgecombe and Jared McCain who might get the nod for Rising Star, but what about the dunk contest? After watching Delaware Blue Coats attraction Mac McClung throw with the 76ers logo on his uniform, could the 76ers land a key member of the competition this year, that is. high-flying, sky-walking shooter VJ Edgecombe?
On paper, he’s a perfect fit, but for that to happen, Edgecombe would actually want to participate in the event, which unfortunately doesn’t seem to be the case.
Asked specifically about joining the slam dunk contest in Los Angeles next month, Edgecombe shot it down, telling reporters that he’s just not interested in participating in the event.
“No, I’m fine,” Edgecombe stated succinctly, via PHLI Seekers.

Widely lauded for his play above the rim at Baylor before going third overall in the 2025 NBA draft, it makes some sense that Edgecomb doesn’t want to put himself in the box, as he’s made it a point to improve his outside shooting, passing and defense during the first half of his rookie season. With that in mind, how sweet would it be to see the rookie star throw it down in Allen Iverson’s black, red and gold uniform on the national stage? Even if it didn’t affect his long-term career, it would still be sweet.
