VJ Edgecombe’s Sixers are coming to spoil the party in New York

Without Joel Embiid, the opposition of styles is evident in the first half, in between Nix who rule, with all the carnage inside the duo of Karl-Anthony Towns – Mitchell Robinson (20 points, 16 total rebounds), and Sixers who instead rely on 3-point success behind Tyrese Maxey (17 points) staring Jaylen Brunson (16 points) straight in the eye.

The scoreboard still has everything to do at halftime (59-57), but the tenants of Madison Square Garden have a brief lead, hoping to maintain a streak of seven consecutive victories.

As the minutes pass, we still feel it New York is less and less comfortable, and you only have to look at Jalen Brunson to see that, when Philadelphia on his part, he manages to physically prevail. Led by VJ Edgecombe, who perfectly takes over scoring from Tyrese McKay, while Andre Drummond allows himself to draw with incredible 3-point efficiency. Novak is full of self-confidence and it is logical that the balance tilts to one side more than the other (99-94).

If Michal Bridges can limit the damage to the best of his ability, in the company of a diabolical Mitchell Robinson under the panels, the margin of victory is too great for the Knicks to avoid a second setback of the season at home. Especially since VJ Edgecombe (23 points) puts another layer in the middle distance, on 3 points, then on the tap, before Tyrese McKay (30 points, 9 assists) settles the matter for good, behind the arc (116-107).

Mitchell Robinson (21 points, 16 rebounds) i Mikal Bridges (21 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists) gave everything, but it wasn’t enough. No more than “double-double” of Karl-Anthony Towns (22 points, 11 rebounds).

TO BE REMEMBERED

The garden celebrated its heroes. Three days after the triumph in the NBA Cup, the Knicks found their audience and, even if he did not want to raise the flag on the ceiling of Madison Square Garden, they were warmly welcomed by their fans. Fifty-two years after the last trophy, New York football players cheered before the game, and immediately before the national anthem was played, and a video was broadcast showing the best moments of their journey in the tournament.

One match too many for New York. Between this week’s festivities, in Las Vegas, and this “back-to-back” joint event between Indiana and New York, the Knicks undoubtedly reached the end of their physical limits last night. We saw them fire in the second half, and especially in the final act, against the freshness of the Sixers. The more rested Karl-Anthony Towns and Mitchell Robinson delayed the deadline long with their offensive rebounds and points in the paint, but, like Jaylen Brunson and OG Anunoby, the legs were heavy, creating turnovers and fumbles from long range.

VJ Edgecombe, sample size. With his “Jimmy Butler” style, VJ Edgecombe shined in one of the biggest rooms on the basketball planet. Author of 18 of his 23 points after the break, he was clearly the best player of the second half, man-to-man defense and showing himself to be spontaneous in the attack, to punish from distance and from close range (or even from mid-range). If Tyrese McKay, the returnconfident again, the rookie was not left out when Paul George was in trouble, and his constant activity made the difference against the Knicks, who were less and less sharp, and therefore unable to match his physical intensity.
