Walter Clayton Jr. breaks a franchise record with crazy stats against the Pacers


Walter Clayton Jr. accomplished an impressive rookie feat with his performance in Memphis Grizzlies’ 125-106 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Sunday night.

Clayton is coming off the rookie campaign of his NBA career, enjoying an incredible collegiate career that includes a national championship with the Florida Gators. He began the 2025-26 season with the Utah Jazz before he and several other players were traded to Memphis in a player agreement.

The move gave Clayton a chance to play a bigger role, earning more starts as Memphis’ season winds down. Clayton made strides as a two-way guard, showing off his skills against Indiana. In 34 minutes of action, he finished with statistics of seven points, 14 assists, four steals, three rebounds and one block.

This performance allowed him to make franchise history with the Grizzlies. He recorded the most assists in any game as a rookie, topping Memphis’ rookie list in that stat.

Walter Clayton Jr. was active in the game department with his 14 dishes. As a result, he helped the Grizzlies blow out the Pacers in a solid road win.

Seven players scored in double figures for Memphis in the win. Taylor Hendricks impressed with 19 points, five rebounds and one assist. It’s Jalen Wells’ turn with 18 points and three rebounds, Olivier-Maxens Prosper had 17 points and three assists, while Scotty Pippen Jr. had 16 points and five assists. Meanwhile, Ryan Rupert had 16 points and six rebounds.

Memphis improved to 23-36 on the season, holding onto 11th place in the Western Conference standings. They are above the Dallas Mavericks and New Orleans Pelicans. However, they are behind the Los Angeles Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.

The Grizzlies will look forward to their next game, staying on the road. They face the Minnesota Timberwolves and tip-off will take place on March 3rd at 8:00 PM ET.
