We know Andre Iguodala’s successor at the head of the players’ union
NBA Players Association (NBPA) used the All-Star break to hold the annual meeting of the Players’ Representative Council, during which Andre Iguodala confirmed that he is stepping down as “executive director” in July, and is being replaced by David Kellywho until then had an advisory role to Iggy, but also to Fred VanVleet, the president of the players’ union.
“Since my election, David has been a trusted advisor to me and the Executive Committee, showing an unwavering commitment to the players”, Fred VanVleet responded.. “The players and I can’t thank Andre enough for his leadership and the sacrifices he’s made over the last few years.”
Unknown to the general public, David Kelly worked for the Warriors where he managed commercial contracts and oversaw the construction of the Chase Center.
Santi Aldama and Trey Murphy III, named vice presidents
At the same time, Santi Aldama and Trey Murphy III were elected vice presidents of the Executive Committee. Effective immediately, they succeed Jaren Jackson Jr. and Donovan Mitchell, whose three-year terms have expired.
As part of the NBPA Executive Committee, Santi Aldama and Trey Murphy III will help lead strategic planning, business partnerships and key initiatives to conduct the business of the NBPA on behalf of all players.
“I am excited to join the Executive Committee and begin working on the issues that affect NBA players every day.”, said Santi Aldama. “My goal is to ensure that every player feels supported and that we continue to strengthen the strength and unity of this brotherhood.”
