What Anthony Davis, Klay Thompson have already learned about Cooper Flagg
Amide Dallas Mavericks newcomer Cooper FlaggThe first two weeks of the regular season, teammates Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis gave fans their first impressions of the NBA’s first overall pick. While it’s still early in the regular season, some i wonder if the mavericks will make the playoffs this year, given the injuries — including Kyrie Irving, who has yet to make his season debut — and fierce competition in the Western Conference.
However, when it comes to how Flagg is with his veteran teammates — Davis and Thompson — their responses about this year’s No. 1 pick are positiveaccording to the NBA’s X, formerly Twitter.
“I learned he loves to play. Big player,” Klay Thompson said. “A big player in eSports.”
For Davis, Flagg’s work ethic stands out the most.
“He’s a worker,” Davis said. “He wants to be great. He takes the game very seriously.”

Flagg finished with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting, 10 rebounds, four assists and one block in the Mavericks’ 115-107 win over the Indiana Pacers. Five games into his rookie campaign, Flagg is averaging 13.4 points on 41.0% shooting, 6.2 rebounds and 2.8 assists for Dallas.
In the midst of a 2-3 start, Cooper Flagg and the Mavericks are still finding their stride in 2025-26. However, one analyst has already seen enough. The Mavs will miss the playoffs this seasonaccording to ESPN’s Tim Bontemps.
“The theory going into the season was that Dallas’ defense would carry it pending the potential return of Kyrie Irving. But during this first week, the defense looked far from terrible, and the lack of perimeter shooting and shot creation was an expected problem,” Bontemps said. “It’s a bad combination in a loaded Western Conference.”
It’s a conference led by the undefeated defending champion Oklahoma City Thunder (7-0) and the San Antonio Spurs (6-0), the only other undefeated team in the West, who handed Dallas its first regular-season loss in the season opener.
Anthony Davis is unlikely to play in the Mavericks’ game against the Pistons

Mavericks All-Star Anthony Davis is unlikely to face the Pistons in Saturday’s match in Mexico City. Davis exited Wednesday’s 107-105 win over the Pacers with calf soreness and is expected to miss his first full game of the 2025-26 season, according to NBA insider Marc Stein.
“Anthony Davis is expected to be ruled out of Dallas’ game Saturday in Mexico City against Detroit after exiting Wednesday night with left calf soreness. Official status update remains TBA after Davis was listed with bilateral Achilles tendinopathy earlier this week,” Stein wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
If they beat the Pistons, it will be the Mavericks’ first straight regular season win.
