What Charles Barkley said on the air about the Minneapolis murders

Former NBA star and longtime sports broadcaster Charles Barclay is responding to the recent shooting in Minneapolis, Minnesota, involving ICE. Alex Pretty, an intensive care nurse, died Saturday after an argument with ICE agents. Agents killed Pretty, and the investigation is ongoing.

This is the second fatal shooting of an American citizen by ICE agents in January. Earlier this month, a Minnesota woman named Renee Goode was also killed. Barclay gave an impassioned reaction on the situation on the ESPN program Inside the NBA.

“It’s just sad man. It’s scary. It’s sad, and I don’t know how … it’s going to end badly. It’s already ended badly twice,” Barkley said on the show, which was shared on Reddit. “Somebody has to step up and be grown up. Two people died for no reason. It’s just sad.”

Barkley commented after the announcement The NBA postponed the Minnesota Timberwolves-Golden State Warriors game, which was scheduled for Saturday. That contest is now scheduled for Sunday night.

Several NBA stars are reacting to the latest shooting in Minneapolis

Barkley isn’t the only person connected to the NBA talking about the situation. Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Halliburton slammed ICE after the shooting of Pretty on Saturday.

National Association of Basketball Players issued a statement on Sunday, about the shooting.

“Now more than ever, we must defend the right to free speech and stand in solidarity with the people of Minnesota who are protesting and risking their lives to seek justice,” the statement said. “The brotherhood of NBA players, like the United States itself, is a community enriched by global citizens, and we refuse to allow the flames of division to threaten the civil liberties that should protect us all.”

It’s not just NBA players and broadcasters who are reacting to this news. WNBA star Breanna Stewart held a sign that read “Abolish ICE” during Sunday’s unparalleled pregame player introductions.
