What Jed Hoyer had to say about Kyle Tucker’s deal with the Dodgers

The Chicago Cubs they failed to retain the All-Star Kyle Tuckerwho agreed to a lucrative four-year, $240 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ali, Chicago’s president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer it seems that understand the reasoning behind Tucker’s decision.

“Kyle had an interesting season with us,” Cubs president of baseball operations Jed Hoyer told Patrick Mooney of the Athletics. “He showed the superstar he is in the first half and helped us offensively in the first half. He obviously struggled a little bit in the second half. But he’s a star, and he’s paid like a star.”

“I’m happy for him. He’s going to a place where he can obviously win. I’m glad we were a good platform for him to have a good year and play in the postseason and get paid.”

Tucker experienced a strange 2025 with the Cubs. In 136 games last season, the Florida native hit 22 home runs, collected 73 RBIs and posted an OPS of .841. While these grades are solid, Tucker has also dealt with multiple injuries and setbacks that have made the second half of the season a challenge.

Hoyer and the Cubs were able to ink third seed Alec Bregman to a five-year, $175 million deal, but were never considered strong contenders to sign Tucker to a long-term pact.

“There’s an excitement in the air for Cubs baseball,” Bregman said. “I can’t wait to catch him.”

It remains to be seen how the Cubs will fare with Bregman, or if Tucker will be able to live up to his All-Star billing with the Dodgers, but the offseason certainly offered some interesting storylines.
