What the Grizzlies want in Ja Morant’s trade talks with the Bucks

Recently, the The Memphis Grizzlies were in the trade mill around the star play Ja Morantand the team was reportedly ready to move him to a new destination, according to Shams Charania of ESPN. Morant recently made headlines after being caught on camera in a heated altercation with teammate Vince Williams Jr. at a Grizzlies practice, and he has missed the last few games for Memphis due to injury.

One team that many consider a possible landing spot for Morant is the Milwaukee Bucks, and recently NBA insider Michael Scotto of Hoopshipe broke down what Memphis would like it back of Milwaukee in a potential deal.

“In trade discussions for Morant, the Grizzlies wanted Milwaukee’s 2031 or 2032 first-round pick and Rookie of the Year candidate Ryan Rollins, league sources told HoopsHipe,” Scotto reported.

Scotto also noted that the Bucks “weighed the value of trading forwards Kyle Kuzma and Bobby Portis on the league-wide market, sources said. Both players could be included in the Morant trade to make the salary demands work under CBA rules, but Milwaukee would remain thin in the frontcourt.”

As Scotto mentioned, Rollins has been the Bucks’ top prospect this season, so a package of him and a pick could be too much for the Bucks to pass up, especially considering the Atlanta Hawks were only able to nab CJ McCollum and Corey Kispert in the recent Trea Young trade to the Washington Wizards.

Still, the Bucks have proven to be a desperate team in their quest to surround Giannis Antetokounmpo with as much supporting talent as possible, so it’s not out of the question that they might be willing to go above market value to land a player like Morant before the deadline.
