Where the Heat stand with Giannis Antetokounmpo trade talks

The Miami Heat have been playing some improved basketball lately, recently getting back into the win column with a big win over the Chicago Bulls. However, there is much speculation that Pat Riley and Heat front office could look to make a move before the Feb. 5 trade deadline, and the biggest name on the market is the Milwaukee Bucks star Giannis Antetokounmpo.

Most recently, NBA insider Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints broke the latest in the place where the Heat stands in potential pursuit of the Greek Freak.

“There have also been discussions between the Bucks and Heat regarding Antetokounmpo, but league sources say Milwaukee wants all of Miami’s young assets, including Tyler Hero,” Siegel reported.

He also noted that “so far, it doesn’t look like the Heat have made all of their assets available at this deadline like the Warriors have, which has led to the Bucks’ counteroffers thus far.

At this point, it seems more likely that the Heat will wait until the summer to push all their chips into the middle of the table regarding a potential Antetokounmpo deal, but it’s still certainly possible that they could get more aggressive in the next few days.

The Heat have been on a streak of mediocrity over the last two-plus seasons, having lost in the first round in uncompetitive fashion to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2025 and the Boston Celtics the year before that.

Miami’s days of putting together deep playoff runs with Jimmy Butler and a motley crew of role players are long behind them, and the fan base is demanding that the team either fully embrace a rebuild or go hunting for big game again either on the market or in free agency.

Antetokounmpo would certainly fit that bill.

Anyway, the heat will take the floor next on Tuesday night against the Atlanta Hawks.
