Which NBA records could fall in the 2025/26 season?
It’s almost time for the NBA to resume: The 2025/26 season starts on Tuesday and will last for about eight months. On this occasion, it is time to look at the various statistical issues of this new exercise, between the records to be broken and the levels to be reached.
Points, rebounds, assists, steals, tackles or baskets: several players will, as every year, have the opportunity to advance in the statistical hierarchy of the league. As long as injuries don’t spoil the fun…
POINTS
Far behind the untouchable LeBron James, Kevin Durant (30 571) fl James Harden (27,687) will play to enter the Top 5 and Top 10 all-time scorers. If “KD” needs 1,722 points (about sixty games, with an average rate of 25 points?) to overtake Wilt Chamberlain, Dirk Nowitzki and Michael Jordan, “Brady” needs only 603 points (about thirty games, with an average rate of 20 points?) to pass Carmelo Anthony.
A little further, in 20th place, Russell Westbrook (26,205) is on track to pass Oscar Robertson, in 15th place, to become the most prolific player in history in terms of points. To do that, he will need 506 points, or a good forty matches with an average rate of 12 points.
If their build (finally) leaves them alone, Anthony Davis (18 978), Paul George (18 697) fl Kyrie Irving (18,433) have a chance to reach the “20,000 club”. Fifty matches with an average rate of 20 points should be enough for “AD”, while “PG” and “Uncle Drew” risk waiting for 2026/27. to imitate him…
Note that ten of them are on the verge of reaching 10,000 career points: Kristaps Porzingis (9 839), Aaron Gordon (9 757), Brandon Ingram (9 656), Jamal Murray (9 623), Jerami Grant (9 428), Kyle Kuzma (9 210), Anthony Edwards (9 097), Miles Turner (9 031), Bam Adebayo (8,923) and finally Jalen Brunson (8 821).
REBOUNDS
The 10,000 career rebound mark is close Rudy Gobert (9,700): He needs just 300 to accomplish this and should give up 30 or so games, as he hasn’t averaged less than 10 rebounds since… 2014/15. Already the author of more than 10,000 points in his career, the Frenchman would then confirm the prestigious “double-double”, which has been achieved by 40 players (including LeBron James, Andre Drummond and Nikola Vucevic).
DECISIVE PASSES
Russell Westbrook (9,925), again, just 75 short assists away from reaching the 10,000 career assist milestone. A formality, as based on an average of 5 offers per match, he will become the 8th player in history to join this “10,000 club” for around fifteen matches.
“Russ” will then be able to look towards the Top 5 in this ranking, as Steve Nash is only 410 passes ahead of him. But this will require a full season of 82 games, if we are still based on an average of 5 offers per game. Is the appointment for 2026/27?
He is also ahead of Russell Westbrook, LeBron James (11,584) would certainly see himself on the pedestal of the best passers in history. Provided he shares 508 assists to knock Jason Kidd out of the Top 3. But that will likely be too difficult due to injuries, as he would need an average of 8 assists per game in sixty or so games…
As for James Harden (8,316), may also be difficult to break into the Top 10, displacing Ise Thomas who has 745 more assists. Therefore, he would have to maintain an average of 10 offers per match over 75 matches!
INTERCEPTIONS
Russell Westbrook (1,955), still he is just 45 short interceptions away from reaching the 2,000 career interception mark. See you in forty games – averaging 1 interception – to see him become the 14th player in history to reach the “2,000 club”?
On the side of Marcus Smart (994), Giannis Antetokounmpo (961) et Nikola Jokic (949), the goal will be lower, as he will instead focus on the 1,000 career interception milestone.
MATCHES
LeBron James (1.562) will he manage to climb to the top of the podium? Having played 50 matches in the 2025/26 season, he will surpass Robert Periš and add a new record to his list. Everything will depend on his health, while the “King” has played at least 50 games a year in 21 out of 22 seasons in the league…
further behind, Chris Paul (1,354) will be looking to get into the Top 10 of this ranking and will have to participate in 57 matches for that. Enough to pass Clifford Robinson, Reggie Miller, Jason Kidd, Tim Duncan and Jason Terry.
The mark of 1,000 games is in sight Harrison Barnes (993), Nikola Vucevic (972) et Tobias Harris (970), even Kevin Love (952), Jonas Valanciunas (937) et Eric Gordon (925) with a little more effort.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE
Goal of 500 career double-doubles for Andre Drummond (484), Rudy Gobert (476), Anthony Davis (470), Kevin Love (468) et Giannis Antetokounmpo (462). Mainly inside the tightrope of Gobert, Davis and Antetokounmpo, while Drummond and Love will have a much harder time getting there.
TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Will we have the right to fight for the leadership position in between Russell Westbrook (203) and… Nikola Jokic (164) ? Currently third, behind Oscar Robertson, “Joker” leaves the season with 34 “triple-doubles”, which is his personal record. Therefore, he could quickly climb to the 2nd place and possibly tickle “Rus”, his former teammate, who will not have so many opportunities to succeed from the bench…
In a relationship Luka Dončić (82), it’s not impossible to see him reach 100 triple-doubles during the season. That would make him the seventh player to achieve this.
BSKETS
Another record that could soon fall into your hands LeBron James (15,488): with 350 points this season, he will become the new record holder in this area, ahead of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. The matter was undoubtedly settled in about forty games, since he hasn’t dropped below an average of 9 points per game since his freshman year.
SCORES FOR 3 POINTS
Having made 100 3-pointers this season, Kevin Durant (2,191) will enter the Top 10 most prolific distance players, replacing Vince Carter. At a rate of 2 game-winning baskets, he would need about fifty games. Watch out for that, though Buddy Hield (2 127) does not steal its place either before or during the process.
for his part, CJ McCollum (1989), Mike Conley (1930), Kyrie Irving (1876), Chris Paul (1 860) et Tim Hardaway Jr. (1,844) envision themselves reaching the landmark 2,000 career 3-pointers. Nothing rocket science for McCollum and Conley, nor Hardaway Jr., even if it promises to be more delicate for Irving and Paul.
LANCERS-FRENCH
What if James Harden (8,164) entered the Top 3 players who made the most free throws in a career, after entering the Top 5 last season? As of today, he trails Moses Malone by 367. At an average of 5 successes per match, he would need just over 70 matches to reach the podium.
