Why Billy Donovan fully supports Nikola Vucevic calling the Bulls soft.

Message from Nikola Vucevic was loud at the weekendsharp and impossible to ignore. The Chicago Bulls‘ The veteran center, who was sidelined Monday with a sore knee, didn’t hold back in calling the team “soft” after another frustrating loss, openly questioning their toughness and accountability.

Instead of suppressing or downplaying the importance of remarkshead coach Billy Donovan doubled down, saying not only that Vucevic is right, but that the Bulls need to hear it.

“I have a good relationship with Vooch, and Vooch is a really smart player,” Donovan said. “He understands what winning looks like and the things you have to do on a regular basis. … Everything he said was nothing he wasn’t on board with. That’s how I felt, too.”

for Donovan, Vucevic’s criticism highlighted a deeper issue: Chicago’s maturity gap and lack of consistent competitive advantage. He noted the stark contrast in locker room experience, saying, “There’s a huge gap. Vooch has three kids. There are guys on this team who are basically sophomores in college.”

Bulls have shown flashes of resilience. They started the season well, but not enough to establish an identity that can withstand the pressure. Donovan emphasized that the process is as important as the result, that the team has fallen into the trap of feeling comfortable after wins despite bad habits, and discouraged after losses, even when improvements are visible.

“You can win games in this league and go in the wrong direction and you can lose games and feel really good like, ‘OK, we’re starting to do things the right way, we just didn’t get the results we needed,'” Donovan said. “That’s Vooch’s point, that it’s not sustainable.”

Second-year forward Matas Bouzelis echoed that sentiment, saying the veteran has “every right to be upset” and the team needs to respond.

Whether the wake-up call becomes a turning point or just another emotional flash will determine Taurus’ direction from here.
